OBJECTIVE

The IMA recognises NUS faculty, administration staff members who have made a difference to the lives of alumni during their student days on campus. They are outstanding mentors and teachers who have made exceptional impact on the alumni and have helped change and influence the course of life of the alumni.

NOMINATIONS

  • All alumni are invited to nominate and give their support to faculty and administration staff members whom they feel deserve special recognition for exemplary teaching and mentorship.
  • Nominations should be submitted in the form of a letter in a prescribed format or through an online form.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Faculty must be currently teaching or have retired.
  • The award encompasses tenured and non-tenured faculty, including lecturers, adjuncts, non-academic staff and residential hall administrators.
  • Posthumous nominations are accepted.

AWARD CATEGORIES

  • Faculty Category – for faculty mentors; the number of awards in this category will depend on the number of participating faculties.
  • Open Category – for administrative mentors, one award will be conferred in this category

JUDGING CRITERIA

It is agreed that the judging criteria should be more specific and articulate the values identified. The criteria should be based on:

  • how inspirational and dedicated the mentors are in building the characters of the students during their undergraduate days and how they continue to mentor them to succeed in their professional and personal pursuits.
  • non-academic achievements in one or more of these outcomes :
       - Life-shaping experience
       - Major life achievements
       - Honing of skills
       - Opening new paths
       - Life values
  • Aspects of transformation :
       1. Good to Great:- Fosters the student's holistic development
       2. Student to Professional:- Develops the student's professional development
       3. Adversity to Triumph:- Takes a dedicated interest in the student's well-being

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Letters of Recommendation needs to provide the following criteria:

  • Information about the nominee mentor educator, including a description of why he/she is deserving of this award.
  • A brief summary about the proposer, including programme of study, years in the programme and any other information that may aid the selection committee in understanding the impact the nominee mentor educator has had on the proposer’s life/academic/professional development.

AWARD PRESENTATION

The inaugural awards will be presented at a ceremony proposed to be held during the Official Opening of Alumni Complex. All award recipients, nominees and the alumni who nominated them, the faculty deans and representatives will be invited.

15 February 2009 Shortlisted candidates from each faculty to be submitted to AAB selection panel
15 March 2009 Finalisation of winners by AAB selection panel
17 March 2009 Confirmation of winners by AAB
April 2009 Feature story and citations compilations
